ST. JAMES WAY – LITHUANIAN WAY
Dr Laima Andrikienė, Member of the European Parliament, gave a presentation on St James Way in Lithuania at the VI Annual Advisory Forum on the European Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, which took place in Vilnius, Lithuania on October 26-27, 2016.
Presentation shows creation of Lithuanian St James Way as an example of cooperation and synergy among different stakeholders: politicians (MEPs), civil society (NGOs, local communities), national Government and its agencies,municipalities and the Catholic Church in Lithuania. Presentation includes maps and related information about pilgrimage routes of St James Way - Camino de Santiago - in Lithuania, i.e. four international routes (Samogitian / Kaliningrad, Šiauliai, Kaunas, and Vilnius) & one internal route – St James Ring. Presentation also summarises process of justification and recognition of the Lithuanian St James Way in Lithuania and abroad and gives some insights on the importance of European cultural routes in general. Recommendations on expanding European cultural routes and developing of their infrastructure using EU funds could also be find in this presentation.
